Tax Credit Information

Ontario Liberal Leadership campaign donations provide generous tax credits for your kindness.

The credit is based on your donation amount and is calculated as follows:

75% on the first $465 of donations in 2023

50% on the portion of your donation between $465 and $1,552 in 2023

33.33% on the portion between $1,552 and $3,532 in 2023

The amount of the credit depends on how much you give. The maximum credit is $1,552.

Donations after Tax credits

$500 costs you $134 after tax credits

$1000 costs you $385 after tax credits

$3350 costs you $1858 after tax credits

To get the credit, you need to:

be an Ontario resident on December 31 of the tax year

have made a contribution during that year to a candidate in an Ontario provincial election, or to a registered Ontario political party, registered constituency association or registered leadership contestant. You cannot claim this credit for contributions to municipal or federal elections

Donations to leadership candidates can be made in addition to donations to party or local riding association.
